….we take a short break from ‘Pluck Up!’ every Wed!

It has been fun (to sing on-air!), stressful (to choose and learn
covers), exhilarating (of finishing every song), nerve-wrecking
(knowing when to shut up when we’re not supposed to make a sound, and
singing and playing by the count of 5), touching (when people sms in
their support) and amusing (the mindless banter) so far. Initially,
there were some technical constraints, but all thanks to Ken who tried
his best to get the stuff we needed. As usual, Tien-yao has been a
great help and fire to keep it going )

Thanks to all those who sms in to support and encourage, I really
appreciate all these..just that I may not have the chance to say, or am
not the type to express that much..

Thanks for all the song requests too…we did try to do the songs
requested, but hey, we can’t possibly do ALL songs because first of
all, we must like the songs too…and sometimes we just do not have
enough time to learn super new songs. We’re trying our best though, and
I think we’ve got it pretty-much going and improved over the past 3
months (at least don’t cringe that much when I listen to playback)!

So do tune in if you have time on 28 May 08, Wed 11pm-12am.
If there’s any songs you’ll like to hear, pls scratch a comment here.
If you can’t hear it through the radio, you can do so through internet
streaming here!

Probably the special item you won’t want to miss…is we’ll get Ken to sing!

May The Music Month

This month, is rest and cruise month.

When people ask me what I’ve been busy with, my answer is “I’m very busy…. eating, resting, having fun”. Yeah!

I’ve caught James Blunt’s concert (by a twist of fate, with Tien-yao), and I just came back from Chris Botti’s concert. In comparison, Chris Botti’s concert was exhilarating, mind-blowing, soul-wrenching and most importantly inspiring.

Chris Botti was fantastic of course, but the drummer quickly took my breath away. Billy Kilson
is the best drummer I have EVER witnessed. Botti called him the star of
the show, and he lived it up. A clip which showed his solo, but
honestly I thought he did way better at Esplanade just now (Go to 4th
minute for drum solo).

Chris Botti mentioned at the end of the concert, that to ensure a
next generation of jazz musicians who are capable of dedication to
master music,  specifically instrumental (non-vocal), we should keep
the young generation off the internet, and American Idols.

LOL.

Up next, Sonny Rollins, For all the wrong reasons (theatre from Belgium), and Air Suppy (yah yah).

All thanks to James who went guitar shopping with me…I’ve tried
Yamaha, Seagull, Cort, Taylor, Maestro, Blueridge..I wanted to try
L’arrivée but I think the shop-owner didn’t really think much of
me..well… I have other choices!

Finally I’ve rested for enough days
(though I worked like hell over the past weekend with 3 weddings in 2
days) to blog about my experience in Foshan!

Schedule in Foshan was mad. Bus was at 9am, and we woke up really
early because we are people who treat food with a lot of respect - how
can we miss the spread of dim sum just because of the early bus
schedule?

I slept and slept in the 3-hour bus journey…I think Tien-yao finally
relented to stealing some sleep when he had ascertained nobody was
going to nitch his guitar from the bus’ luggage storing area below. The
sleep did me good because I thought I sang pretty ok during the radio
show and the gig in the evening (sleep is really important to the vocal
cords). Only funny thing was I was more sleep-talking during the
interview. Will upload some video clips soon. (”,)

So after checking into our hotel, catching a quick McDonald lunch
(fastest available), we rushed to the HUGE radio complex; the station
was 1 out of n number of stations. It probably took 2 hours to record
the whole interview and performing and song recommendation segment.

Then we ruuuushed off to the jazz pub to do soundcheck. I was
stunned when I saw the standing poster the boss did for me. Wow. Really
touched from the bottom of my heart. He even gave us a good dinner
treat at a restaurant. *tears of joy*

I’m glad I got to know some new friends…Lao Mao, Luo Hua, Lao Cai,
and of course I got to witness some body antics by Blue Butterfly which
never failed to crack me up.

I just wanna have some fun. Boy, tiredness came with it…
Must say thanks to Tien-yao again for taking good care of me, given
that sotong is my middle name…he is really a very good man 好男人! Sorry
to all girls, he is already taken haha.
(Disclaimer: not by me haha).

Yet…I still wanna travel!

Yes I am back!

My best friend sms me at 1.45pm to check if I was back, cos she knew
she would see me online if I was. Truth was, I was woken up by her sms.

Yes yes, I was THAT TIRED! We didn’t sleep much during the 4days-3
nights escapade. And, congratulations to Tien-yao, because he survived
me!

The schedule was gruelling. Other than getting to perform for
supporters from HK and Foshan, I really cherished catching up with some
friends , namely Cheryl (thanks for helping me with the tickets,
video-ing, food and weather advice), Winnie (too bad we didn’t manage
to catch a meal!), Dilun (so happy to talk over dim-sum! You should
thank me you could take a break from work!), and also made some new
friends - aniDa (finally we met in person, her songs are so cool you
must check them out), Lisa & Alvin (fellow Singaporeans slogging it
out in HK), and of course Foshan musicians like FanQi, Lao Mao, etc.
And I finally got to meet Blue Butterfly in person. More on that later
lol.

Will upload more photos to my Flickr account soon. For now, I just wanna read, watch movies, laze and daze.
