Signed, Sealed, Delivering (New Album)

Finally, I can let out a yelp!

I’ve been holding the news with bated breath since late Aug, and boy it was really tough to receive great news, which for this, comes with the uncertainty and the possibility of a dream terminated prematurely for any random reason. Close friends certainly knew about it, and have been praying for me in all sorts of manners, really, thank you everyone.

The good news is, I am offically signed to S2S Pte Ltd. :)

The contract was signed this afternoon, and though there was initial talk of flying me to Japan to record the upcoming album, the decision was called off because I prefer to work with my local production team, at least for this one. It’s ironic I know, it’s also my dream to record an album with the Japanese musicians in Japan, but it’s the peak period for weddings, and I do want to keep my commitment to the couples who have already booked me (some as early as 1 year ago). Maybe for the one after this? :p

We’re starting production of the album soon, and if everything goes smoothly, it’ll be out next Feb. If you’re looking out for my own songs, I’m sorry, but this one will be mainly covers. Well, it’s afterall an audiophile company, so they’re focusing more on the voice and rearrangement of songs rather than my own works. But what keeps me very happy is, they will put my own works in the 2nd album onwards. That works for me :)

Honestly I’m contract-phobic. I love to be free, so to tie me down means they can really inspire me. And yes, it’s a dream come true for me, because my dream is to be an audiophile singer, and not a lalala pop singer catered to the mainstream Taiwan/China pop market. Before S2S, there have been 3 other companies/individuals who were keen to sign me up, but somehow it just didn’t feel right, and after reading so many contracts (shamelessly bugging my lawyer-friend for free legal advice), I think I’m getting quite used to the legal jargon. I hope following my instinct is right this time round, cos the company proves (at this point) to be very open to discussion, getting and respecting my views, and most importantly, positive.

And that is the reason why I was invited to perform a duet with Aiza a week ago. :)

Yaaaatta!

Bevlyn In Concert - trinkle of post-concert thoughts

Bevlyn In Concert, originally uploaded by bevlynkhoo.

Yes, voila!

I
actually had insomnia for a couple of nights after the concert ended. I
guess it is very me to ruminate about things, the highs and lows. But
all in all, everything went very well (actually as my close friends
would have said, it was already a miracle I didn’t fall flat on my face from the trip over the monitor ).

And
I really count my blessings of having such excellent musicians to help
me out for the concert this time round. My applause for Tien-yao (who has stuck by me all through these months), Lim Hui (who agreed at once when I asked her), James (who flaunted his muscles on both bass and piano), Shawn (whose percussion made such a great difference to the songs), and Jason
(who agreed to play bass 3-4 days before the concert haha). I LOVED the
dinners and the backstage times, however short and random they were.
You guys are adorable!

UCC is really a great place to perform
at. The staff was friendly and helpful, and they really made everyone
feel positive and good. Feels great!

And of course my special thanks to Vocare Media - Sam, Joyce, Fion and Dustin, for sponsoring videography for the concert. That, to me, is so so important.

The
preparation - when I literally locked myself up at home a week before
the day - was stressful, especially when I was crazily practising the
guitar (actually at the same time training for my skin to be
doubly-thick because of the stint).

But when the music from the
full band came on during rehearsals, all the stress was gone. Just
soaking in it was heaven. I had SO much stress, but I also had SO MUCH
FUN.

And who would have thought my cute little friend Dengli
would be my PA cum photographer on that day? She had to buy a clear
file, wrapping paper (an idea which never manifested) and etc etc for
me (cos I am always such a last min person), and take nice photos for
the band (even damaging her shoes in the process), basically, she’s so
good I want her for my PA now!

I was pleasantly surprised to see Swedish people among the audience (first row), and I heard from friends later on there were Indians and Myanmar among others. And it’s lovely to see my vocal teacher Thomas Manhart come to support woohoooo! If you want to learn good singing, this is THE MAN.

Of course, it always warms my heart to see familiar faces - friends from NUS Chinese Society Geyao,
from my days of singing in pubs, and all over the places that I’d been
to - come down to NUS specially for the concert. And people whom I
didn’t know come up to me to buy the albums and get autographs - thank you!

There
are some asking about the next concert, hmm…if there is, it’s gonna be
a ticketed one. I also hope to perform to you guys again! Will keep
everyone informed )

Cheers,
Bevlyn

13 Aug 08, soundcheck, originally uploaded by bevlynkhoo.

It’s 4.18am! Yes, I’m still awake.

I chose this picture to blog, cos I think it reflects the pensive side in me right now.

Feeling the highs and lows of this roller-coaster ride. I thank you
for coming to my concert. It was surreal, maybe that’s why I kept
thinking time passed too fast during the performance.

It felt great to see so many familiar faces, supportive faces whom I
kept seeing time after time for each of my performance; familiar faces
I haven’t seen for the longest time; and of course lovely new faces )

For those who came to the concert, I hope you like what you heard.
For those who couldn’t make it, hope to see you next time (I don’t know
when though ha).

For those hearing my music for the 1st time, thank you for giving me the opportunity to sing to you live.

For those who like what you heard, please spread my music to your friends! Best is, I think through emails, or your blog. )

For those who didn’t really like what they heard, do give me feedback. I’ll do my best to improve on it. )

Ok, for now, it’s sleep. And reply all the smses tmr! (”,)

I’m the HOT friend

I’m the HOT friend, originally uploaded by bevlynkhoo.

Ken bought me this T-shirt when he went
to Australia for his vacation. When you wear this T-shirt, it’s quite
troublesome cos you need to tag yourself to someone because the ‘HOT
friend’ status is relative to someone else. (Tien-yao in this case).

Exciting! Hope to see all of you at the concert tonight!

After our dinner @ QQ noodlehouse (slurp), we went to jam, and wow,
it’s so cool! You know how you get those butterflies and warm feelings
under your skin? Like something inside you is alive or something.

I feel that too when I look at the white clouds upon the blue skies,
smell the grass after a rainfall… or before I do a crazy act.

And I’m so happy to have another new bassist, Jason Widjaja, into
the team for 2 songs, so James can concentrate on his piano playing.

Tmr is tech-run! Woohooo!!!

More musicians!

Yeah, I’ve managed to rope in more musicians for the concert on 13 Aug!

Shawn Kok will be on percussion and Lim Hui and Lim Chun the
endearing siblings have agreed to pull the (violin) strings for me!
Incidentally, Lim Chun is the violinist who played La Vie En Rose in my
album D

And Vocare Media has agreed to be the official videographer. I’m so
thankful, especially since my French performances at the Esplanade was
untaped (

We’ve counting down 2 weeks to the day. Pls help me to send this
page or spread the news to your friends. And this is especially so if
you’re unable to attend!

Jazz in July - Merci et Au Revoir

French lady. For more pictures, click here.

I’m so happy my new friend Jason (whom
I got to know only last Thursday but come down armed with his pro
camera to take pictures for me voluntarily), took this picture, because
it means so much to me.

This French mademoiselle, who was among the audience on the 2nd
evening, came up to congratulate me after the show, and told me she
cried while I was singing ‘Ne Me Quitte Pas‘ - it reminded her of her past…I was shocked, and felt bad that the song made her cry.

If you’re interested to know why this is such a powerful song, click here:

Or click here.

I was elated that many people (from facebook or MySpace Music or 1003 listeners) came down to give support, I hope I did not disappoint. Jon Ang (on piano) and Jon Lim (on saxophone) worked wonders, and I am really blessed to get their help.

I also had some French friends coming all the way from Normandy, France, because their holidays coincided with this concert. I mean, HOW COOL IS THAT YOU TELL ME!!!
I was actually more nervous the 2nd evening because there were more
french people, and it was beyond my dreams to see some of them mouthing
the lyrics with me.

It really is a dream come true for me, and I have to thank Sara from Esplanade for making this possible. And Tien-yao for lending me his videocam (whose batt died on me like before I can record 30min). (

And I remember a gentleman unveiling a huge camera with lens fitted for paparazzi. If you see this, pls send me your photos to bevlynkhoo@yahoo.com. (Or anyone else who’s got nice pics to send me, pls do!)

This makes all my Sat MORNING french classes totally worth it.
